Volunteering in an ORPHANAGE for Children with Down Syndrome

This orphanage is divided in two groups of boys and girls. These houses are destined to be ' Transitory Homes, with capacity for 20 children each one. Here also they realize exercises of independence, recognition of their own cloths, to learn to dress and be controlled in the bathroom and personal hygiene. The children and girls who don’t attend school receive classes in the orphanage with teachers qualified in the area
What kind of skills do I need?
You need to have previous experience working with these kids. Give a lot of love for children and be able and willing to give that love along with care, patience and understanding.
Your Role as a Volunteer
Volunteers help with daily routines such as feeding, cleaning, assist with recreational activities, playing, listening to music and exercising, making special craft activities.
Working Hours:
5-6 hours/day - 5 days a week (volunteers are reminded to remain flexible)

Volunteering in a SCHOOL for Children with Down Syndrome

The school for children with Down syndrome is located in Lima in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho. The school helps children with Down syndrome to develop their skills in areas such as ceramics, cooking, gardening, computers, basic subjects, etc. There are about 150 students, divided in 6 levels as per their progress and performance. There are 15 students per class, and 15 people working for the school. The school also needs a phonoaudiologist, psycho pedagogue, psychologist, physiotherapist, genetic specialists, nurses and social workers.
What kind of skills do I need?
There is no experience required. Volunteers have to give a lot of love for children and be able to improve their lives. Volunteers need to be very open minded and understanding.
Your Role as a Volunteer
Volunteers are class assistants of ceramics, cooking, gardening, computers, basic subjects, sports, music and dances. Volunteers will prepare games, songs and activities to help students in their learning process.
